Printing suggestions

Fedrigoni Ispira can be used without problems with the main printing systems: offset, blind embossing, hot stamping, thermography and screen printing. The use of digital technology, such as xerography and inkjet, must be tested in advance to verify the effectiveness. The surface has low microporosity and consequently the inks do not dry on the substrate. Polymerization in sheet-fed offset printing is achieved by oxidation; therefore, oxidizing inks must be used. Excellent results have also been obtained with UV-curable inks. For screen printing, inks for plastic surfaces are recommended. We discourage the use of fluorescent inks. In addition, it is essential to control all variables of the printing process, especially the drying solution, which must be used in minimal doses.

Conversion suggestions

Good results can be expected with all the main conversion processes: cutting, stamping, marking, folding, gluing and lining (substance 120 g/m2). The special finish of Ispira considerably reduces the microporosity of the surface, making the paper inert to normal hot melt adhesives used for booklet making. To overcome this characteristic, we recommend the use of a polyurethane adhesive. Varnishing and lamination of plastic should be evaluated in advance. Varnish applied with an offset machine is almost completely absorbed and therefore does not improve gloss or protection, therefore we suggest the use of acrylic or UV-curable varnishes. The special soft surface finish can give rise to micro-defects in plastic lamination, caused by incomplete adhesion of the foil to the substrate.
